After School Care Pod

RSAAW designed this Cross-laminated timber (CLT) module for a client seeking an expansion to their childcare facility that would enable them to transport the new prefabricated structure to and from a temporary site. The module is designed to Passive House standards for superior thermal performance. All materials in the prefabricated assembles are designed to be taken apart and reused or recycled as required.

The After School Care Pod features a lobby, cubby hall, offices, and an area for learning and play, with large windows that facilitate supervision and provide ample daylight. The playful colour scheme and use of primary shapes in the building form are designed to be easily recognizable and stimulating for  children. The built environment encourages imagination, play-based exploration, and supports the fundamentals of early childhood development.
