Wood-frame construction over a suspended concrete slab
For the Driftwood Rental building, RSAAW designed a multi-residential building that balances a housing typology and urban presence. At approximately 32,000 square feet, the project brings together 42 rental units and a commercial space within a contemporary form grounded in its West Coast precedents. The composition is shaped by a strong material expression, with wood-toned cladding and solar shades on its windows giving the building rhythm, depth, and identity.
Grade-level parking is integrated to support the building’s daily function, while an amenity rooftop creates shared space for residents above. A strong emphasis was also placed on active transportation, with 42 bike stalls equipped with electrical charging stations. The result is a housing project designed to support coastal living while contributing a distinct architectural character to Gibsons.
